A Recap of the Spokes Canterbury AGM 2026

Thank you to everyone who came to our AGM on Tuesday the 26th of May. We had a good turn out and it was great to hear Tim Hughes’s thoughts on cycle infrastructure from an engineering and safety perspective.

We’d like to especially thank Robert Fleming, who stepped down after 13 years of service to the committee as well as many other roles in the organisation like biketober coordinator and treasurer.

We welcomed new committee members:

  • Will, who will take on the role of Treasurer;
  • Chrys, who is returning to the committee to assist Anne with the role of Submissions Coordinator;
  • Stephen, who is our Newsletter Editor;
  • Cynthia is taking on the new role of membership secretary.

Returning committee members include:

  • Fox, as Chair;
  • George, as Secretary;
  • Anne, as Submissions (co-) Coordinator; and
  • Allan.

Thank you all for stepping up. Also thank you to others who have committed to help write submissions in future to help us keep up with the work.

We would still love to hear from anyone who is interested in joining the committee. We are still looking for someone to take on the role of Social Media Coordinator (can be outside of committee) and a new Secretary in the near future, so George can focus on being Bike Valet Coordinator.

We have set our membership fees for the 2026-2027 year as follows:

  • Unwaged $0
  • Waged $10
  • Keen Supporter $10 + Donation

When your membership is due, Cynthia will send you an email reminder with a link to the payment page.

Thank you to everyone who supports Spokes Canterbury either through a membership, volunteering, donations, or attending our events. We couldn’t do what we do without you. We are a small organisation run by volunteers and we rely on the support of our members to keep us going, so again, thank you. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are excited about the future of Spokes and cycling in Canterbury. We hope to see you at our next event, The Winter Solstice Night Bike Ride on Sunday 21st June (5pm, North Hagley Park at the Mickle Gates) or one of our upcoming bike valet events. Keep on pedalling and tailwinds always!
